Let’s Talk About Sex!- EFT/Stage 1
It is said that when a couple’s sex life is functioning relatively well, sex accounts for 15-20% of the overall satisfaction of the relationship. However, when there is sexual dysfunction it can account for 50-75% of the relational distress. When couples seek assistance, some directly identify sexual concerns, others may allude to sexual dissatisfaction without much detail, and some may not mention anything at all. Conversely, some couples may experience a satisfying sex life in spite of the challenges and conflicts that bring them to therapy. The sexual system is a distinct and separate system yet, intertwined with our attachment system. Just as we take the time to assess each partner’s attachment history, it is important to learn more about each partner’s sexual history as well as the sexual history of the couple. In doing so, we can better use our EFT expertise at creating safety and emotional connection, listen for entry points, deepen empathy, and identify additional resources to assist our couples. In this presentation we will use video clips and discussion to increase your familiarity with and ability to take a sex history, identify a couple’s negative relational/sexual cycle, and integrate these findings in Stage one work.
